Haematology

Our Haematology service provides a comprehensive screening and diagnostic service using a range of state-of-the art technologies and manual laboratory procedures for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with disorders of the blood and bone marrow, such as: sickle cell disease, anaemia, leukaemia and related blood cancers, clotting disorders and bleeding problems such as haemophilia.

Haematology has laboratories at both Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals offering routine tests 24/7, including: Full blood counts (FBC), Reticulocyte Count and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR).

The Haematology laboratories also perform:

  • Blood Film Examination
  • Clotting Screens
  • D-Dimers
  • International Normalised Ratio (INR)
  • Infectious Mononucleosis (I.M) / Paul Bunnell (PB) test

Haematology is accredited at Ipswich by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) to BS EN ISO15189:2012. Accreditation number 9332.

Rare and inherited disease request forms.

Clinicians may send genetic material for storage to the genomics hub and later request tests.

All requests should be made using the rare & inherited diseases request form.  Found on the link below.

With immediate effect, 25/10/2022 all test orders on stored samples should be submitted using an East GLH Rare Disease Test order form.

East GLH will no longer accept email requests for the activation of tests on stored samples.

ESNEFT Microbiology Service Improvement
