B. Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Culture
Phlebotomy Requirements
It is advised that samples should only be taken by staff who have been trained in taking these samples, Cultures for whooping cough are continued for five days.

Flexible Pernasal swabs with transport medium are recommended for patients with suspected whooping cough. These are available on request from the laboratory during routine hours.

Notes
Diagnosis of infection with Bordetella pertussis. Positive cultures will be referred to the reference laboratory at Colindale for confirmation. It is advised that samples should only be taken by staff who have been trained in taking these samples
