East Suffolk North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT)

Pathology Service

Those working in pathology (the study of disease) investigate the causes of illness and how it progresses, carry out tests on tissue, blood and other samples from patients. They play a crucial role in the diagnosis of illness by helping doctors choose the best type of treatment for patients, and monitoring its effectiveness.

ESNEFT consists of eight departments:

  1. Blood Transfusion
  2. Biochemistry
  3. Haematology
  4. Microbiology
  5. Histopathology
  6. Pathology IT
  7. Phlebotomy
  8. Immunology

We process over one million tests per year serving 1.5 million people across East Suffolk and North Essex via two hospitals, multiple GP practices and healthcare centres.

All our laboratories use state-of-the-art, cutting edge technology and are supported by an integrated IT network.
