Clinical Biochemistry

Our Clinical Biochemistry service provides highly automated, rapid analysis of blood, urine and other body fluids for the diagnosis and monitoring of renal, liver, cardiac, thyroid and other disease groups.

Clinical Biochemistry has laboratories at both Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals and both sites offer a comprehensive range of routine biochemistry tests 24/7, including: Urea & Electrolytes (U&E), Liver Function Tests (LFT), C-Reactive protein (CRP).

The biochemistry department also measures:

  • tumour markers such as CEA and Ca-125
  • glucose and HbA1c for diabetic monitoring,
  • hormone levels such as LH, FSH and prolactin
  • drug monitoring such as digoxin, anti-epileptic drugs, paracetamol, salicylate and antibiotics.

The Clinical Biochemistry offers a comprehensive analytical and advisory service to the hospital sites and to General Practitioners within East Suffolk and North Essex.
