Phlebotomy Requirements

Sample must be received in the lab within 3 hours of venepuncture unless centrifuged before delivery to the laboratory.

Notes

Non-fasting. No specific patient preparation required. FOR ANAPHYLATIC PATIENTS, a sample should be taken as soon as possible after emergency treatment has started. A second sample ideally within 1 to 2 hours (but no later than 4 hours) from the onset of symptoms. Ensure each specimen is labelled with its collection time to avoid confusion. The time of the anaphylactic event must be recorded on the request.
