Testing should be considered in immunocompromised patients with progressive damage and inflammation of the white matter in the brain with neurological symptoms including: cognitive and behavioural changes; paraesthesia; visual problems; gait abnormalities and loss of limb coordination; and hemiparesis. JC virus is a causative agent of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy - details should be included on request form
